Standing Tall : Health Care

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

Worked hard all his life providing for the ones he loves,

Standing Tall during tough times nothing can knock him down or make him fall,

Prayed every night for his families safety with his hands together as he looked to the heavens above,

My Dad is an unsinkable battleship and an inpenetrable brick wall,

With love for his country and family he has done for others but not himself,

Not a rich man, not a poor man, and never the type to chase after monetary wealth,

We never thought he'd ever be sick or see the deteriation of his health,

One day I got a call from my mom who was clearly upset,

She said dad is in the hospital as her voice trembled as she wept,

I rushed over to the hospital and sat in the waiting room,

Mom came to bring me back to dad her face flush with streams of tears from her eyes in full bloom,

Without a word she led me back to where daddy lay,

A strong man brought to his knees as hes on the edge of his living days,

"Son", he spoke but it was more like words from a beaten man,

I wont be around to help raise the family or tend to our piece of land,

I ve been living with these pains within my chest and they have finally come to call,

I love you and will miss you but now its your turn to stand tall,

Help your Mother when she needs you and take care of our piece of land,

And please burry me between the mesquite trees in that soft and loamy sand,

"DAD, DAD", I called to him as he slid away his time had finally come,

Mom and I held each other as his body went limp and numb,

Dad would have lived longer as he was stronger then anyone that I knew,

But because of the money he never saw a doctor and his ailment just grew and grew,

His taxes helped pay to provide care for others but yet their was little care for him,

An American Country turned its back on my dad and left him out on a limb,

The United States is Guilty of Citizen neglect and taking care of our basic needs. It is not a question of if we can afford a healthcare plan, it is a question of can we afford not to have a healthcare plan?
