Running for his life : Sports Poetry

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

It was a hot day, hotter then a melt down in hell,

Julian was just mowing the front yard then he fell,

On the ground he lay slumped still with low breathing,

His mother screaming for help as her sons body began seizing,

An Ambulance came soon after a neighbors call,

Sirens filled the streets and echoed off walls,

Julian's mother followed close behind to the hospital ER,

Jumped out quickly as she abandoned her car,

She grabbed Julian's hand as they rolled him into a room,

Then they asked her to leave as they ran tests until noon,

A doctor came out with a look of loss on his face,

Her hearted started pumping as it nervously raced,

"Your son has a Tumor on part of his brain",

He's all right for now but numbered are his days,

It's malignant and within a year he'll be gone,

She cried then she prayed for her poor little son,

He was just 14, it wasn't fair she cried out,

Take me instead, then she started to pout,

Along the bedside she stroked his white clammy cheek,

His eyes opened up but he was too weak,

He tried to speak but words fell soft without sound,

His lips were saying don't worry, your little man will always be around,

Six Years Later........

Julian never gave up as he faced his Demon Tumor,

He ran for his life, running was the cure, the Doctors rumored,

He ran in the morning, afternoon and night,

The small towns people cheered him on as he ran from site,

They all new of the tumor that he faced,

Running the battle over life Julian raced and he raced,

After years of running he qualified for Olympic Spot,

He outran the best of contenders and earned his own shot,

During the games his story started to unfold,

The hearts of the World prayed that he would grow old,

They cheered for win, a miracle, his health,

Then Julian who lead the pack tripped and he fell,

The cameras zoomed in, the crowd silent without a sound,

This was the day the other runners turned around,

They went to his aid and lifted him onto his feet,

People cheered along the sides of the street,

To the finish line they helped him cross,

Risking their own medals without worry of loss,

The world cried tears of joy for this moment of time,

A truly Olympic Moment,

No Other as Fine
