Not a Tumor : Health Care

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

Just a bump felt within her chest,

She felt it more then once enough to worry about her breast,

Many women would have it checked but she chose to ignore,

The lower middle class have always been the working poor,

As time went bye the bump started to grow,

Her concerns grew because of what she already knows,

She's raced for breast cancer to raise money for others,

To help other misfortunate women, daughters, sisters, wives and mothers,

Now she suffers knowing death will come knocking on her door,

Too much money earned for assistance, she is the working poor,

A Middle-class women in a job without good insurance,

Just another American Citizen facing a typical medical occurrence,

She finally went to the doctor to find out it's too late,

Full blown cancer spread throughout her body with death her only fate,

"Why did'nt you come in sooner", asked her Physician,

We could have saved you from this Cancerious collision,

Tears streamed down her cheeks when she found that she had only weeks,

Thoughts of her children growing up without a mother,

Her husband raising them without a wife or a lover,

She would have seen the doctor sooner if the system wasnt broke,

A family soon to be devastated as they watch their mothers life go up in smoke...

This poem is todays reality for US citizens that have poor or very little Healthcare insurance. Often those found in this position put off proper testing and treatment until its too late. Everyone deserves healthcare and should not be hampered by the overwhelming costs the medical community demands.

Seems to me the people who are fighting healthcare reform are the ones who have a good healthcare plan. The time to stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking about all our brothers and sisters across America is now. I think America has been thinking more about money and not about the bottom line. We all work for a better way of life, not the money, but more of a life to enjoy with our families. If we cant provide healthcare for all our citizens then why the hell are we supporting people across the world with money and aid when we cant even take care of our own?
