Lifes a Book : Thoughts

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

After a day out with my kids, spent at the well known amusement park known as Six Flags, I discovered that there are things this old man should do.

All day long as before my kids asked over and over again for me to ride the rides that I avoid with a plague. I avoid them because of my dreadful fear of the unknown. With a mind that can vividly picture worse case scenarios I not only hid from me fears but was  alienating the relationship I have with my children.

Today I gave in and faced those fears as I rode those rides with my children. Yes, I was afraid and I pictured my very own death many times today in the most vivid and gruesome ways. Today though fear took the back seat as valuable time with my kids was my main concern.

We rode those demon rides, they laughed at the terrified look on my face with each one. When the day was over they had memories of us doing something together that they will never forget, nor will I.

I came to a conclusion at days end that life was more like a book. Today I put some pages in that book that my children may one day recall when I am gone. Maybe I will also recall this day as I grow old and sit in the rocker on my front steps.

With the pages of my life finally looking a little bit more interesting I have decided I needed to change. For change is what I have needed for a long time and what my children can finally savor as I bring more adjectives into this wonderful book of life.

With age often wisdom is assumed, but from this aging man wisdom was accepted from the very kids that I love dear. "Life is too short Dad", exclaimed my son. Then he looked at me and said "lets just have some fun"!
