Inspired by a Breathe : Family Poetry

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

He took life for granted like it would never end,

Thoughtless to others only his self did he think,

Cards would never be bought and never would he send,

Holidays pass and all he did was drink,

Life had become oh too familiar and each day the same,

Get the paper in the morning and brew the same coffee brand,

He taught himself how to wait to die not enjoying the game,

Never took time to go on vacation and run freely through the sand,

But this day was different with a pain felt in his chest,

He sat in the the local burger joint when he fell to the floor,

He remembered the world closing in as he breathed in one last breathe,

and then he was gone and he was no more,

Clinically dead he lay on the once cold tile,

Now only his mind still has life as he realizes his doom,

A fading picture of  his cherished wife from a long ago smile,

"Help this man is having a heart attack", a lady screemed and a man came from the shadows and said "give me room,

He performed CPR until jack breathed in a deep breathe,

Then the stranger vanished from site as quick as ha had came in,

Jack came back to life this time to live instead of waiting for death,

That day he visited his children for the first time in a long time, while his grandchildren said "where have you been"?

He looked at them all with tears in his eyes, Ive been dead for years but now Im finally alive...

From that point on my Dad Jack became my Dad again,

He became my best friend, and the man I look up to today..

Mom would be proud of him,

He finally figured happiness should be sought out each and every day,

We visited Mom and placed beautiful Lillies on her grave,

I saw tears from Dads eyes roll down his cheek as he staired upon the grave where momma now lays......then we all held hands and for the first time together we all prayed
