I see them mostly when their fast asleep,
Deep into their dreams just counting sheep,
My how they've grown,
Often In the hotel room I sit alone,
Those lonely times tick by slow,
Often I think of my family and let the tears flow,
I hope someday they will come to understand,
I do this because I'm there father, I sacrifice because Im a man.
I did'nt choose this path of being gone and away,
My legs carry me out of town when my heart wants to stay,
With the years gone bye Ive kept them clothed and fed,
Encouraged them when I could to learn and get ahead,
My hopes is one day they can be at home,
Sharring memories with their kids and not being alone,
Hearing each others voices from across the room,
Not from a phone living a life of gloom,
I'm getting older and tired of working this way,
It's getting harder to say "God bless the USA".

This poem was written because of the so many sacrifices I and my family go through to stay afloat. It use to be not so many years ago when time with family was often and rarely did family move away from each other. Now careers have families spread throughout the country. Personally I think it's time to get back to the basics. Throw out those cell phones, Tv's, and internet and start living life the way it was meant to be lived. You know what I mean, living together and helping each other out. Family reunions and sunday lunches or dinners with one another.
No matter what happens, no matter where I am, my family will always be in my prayers and of course those serving over seas. "God Bless and God Speed Soldiers"!
