Hairs of Gray : Poetry about Grandma

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

The call came in about the Death of someone sweet and pure,

Old age has taken its toll as more then youthful thoughts have vanished,

85 years have come to quickly and yet with all that has stopped,  life still continues,

I look for the tears but they are absent and I feel ashamed,

A man taught over the years to be a man and never to cry,

Thoughts of smiles and past memories resurface as does the remembering of Birthday cards that always came,

My actions seemingly selfish as I reflect upon what I have not done,

Rarely have I called to say a simple thank you, rarely have I ever sent her a card, and now I search the house in hopes to discover a picture of her,

My Grandmother was more then grand, she had slowly turned into an angel over time,

Within the wings of life babies are born into this world and soon turn into children then adults,

As adults we slowly become pure once again and then are reborn as we vanish and maybe go where we once came from,

Born into something different with uncertainty at the last moments before the lights go out,

Visions of the past running through our minds, and faces of the ones we love engulfing our last moments,

My grandmother is now in my heart, thought of more now then before, and I am hopeful that she lives on through the family and friends she has touched over all these years...

After finding the only picture I ever had of her, I turn it over and on the back it reads....

I miss you Jeffrey, Please call me sometime when you get a chance,

Love you forever,

Grandma

With that said, Tears ran down from my eyes", and now I realize truly how much I will miss her.
