Dear dad : Family Poetry

written by Poet : Jeff Pelsang

Dear Dad,

I know you did the best you could,

You think it wasnt good enough,

But you taught me well and you were clearly understood,

Life with me growing up was a little rough,

I tested you often and we both managed to survive,

I never went to prison and were both still alive,

So over all I think you did a great job of raising me,

My values are in tact and so are all the past memmories,

I do have some regrets though,

Being far away from you and not being able to share each day with you makes life not so complete,

Wanting to hang with you, go fishing at the shore, things we were to busy to do, often only having a cup of coffee together and talking, and that was a treat,

But memmories remain to be built upon, old wrongs to be undone, having one on one dad and son time, casting the line off the beach and having fun,

I sit here writing and can remeber pieces of the past, Like camping in up state New York, remember the lake secluded with trees that were so vast,

Catching cat fish and being the young boy I was, into everything and not thinking about my fathers love,

The more I think about what has been, makes me want even more, makes we want to go back again,

You worked hard all those years to keep us safe and fed, but best of all you did it without complaining, you worked two jobs till late in the night while I got to sleep in my own bed,

Ive seen you you change over the years, youve grown up into a wonderful dad, a grandpa, and now Im a father raising 3 children, and I wish you were here, not just as a dad but also my best friend,

Dad I love you and appreciate all that youve done,

but like father like son, Ive got work to do, love you and I gotta run,
