It was the annual pumpkin carving contest in the small town of Alvarado,
The purse was 500 dollars for the winner and for most people in this small community, "That was a lot of dough",
This year a young teen named Alex was sure to win,
He needed the money to buy a car so he carved pumpkin after pumpkin till he blistered his skin,
With each carving the Jack O Lanterns were almost perfected to scare,
Nobody woulld look at the pumpkins for too long, nobody would even dare,
For these pumpkins seemed alive and real,
With the look of death in their glowing eyes one could almost sense their evil,
Alex's work with the carving knife was not the secret to his artistic creations,
It was the blood from his blisters that brought life to his carving fascination,
That night he won the top prize as his pumpkins frightened all,
That night The Jack O lanterns awoke with a thirst for blood as the spirits came to call,
As the towns people ended their night of trick or treat, filling their bags up with things that were sweet,
The Jacks readied for a carving deliight as the full moon rose unto a crisp Autumn night,
One by one they grew bodies taken from old discarded souls,
Souls from the likes of murders, rapists and trolls,
Then off on their way with carving blades of their own,
To find some unsuspecting victim in bed home alone,
6 was the magical number that evil had sought, while knife wielding was the skill they were taught,
From house to house they would carve their victims a new face,
Slowly with precision as blood dripped into streams as they raced,
Till the last house where there maker lay fast asleep, they watched him for awhile not making one single peep,
For it was then they realized without him they would'nt have come to life,
So they drop their sharp instruments even the knife,
Climbed up on the sill till the souls were set free, then became just Jack O Lanterns for the people to see,
