I stood amongst the treeless view,
Sand in my eyes but most in my shoes,
Surrounded by those who are grateful Im here,
Worried more about us leaving and the return of the fear,
Ive read all the Newspapers from back home,
They all seem to have it wrong,
Were needed here and we don't want to leave,
Were just soldiers giving hope and their starting to believe,
Freedom is so close and their smiles show,
Their prayers are being answered even if it comes slow,
Smiles on faces of children young and those who are old,
As we protect them from evil and house them from the cold,
Its a long road and thanks to Bush theres a chance,
For freedom will come and the people will stand,
With love in their eyes and hugs given in thanks,
They see us as brothers and sisters and take no notice of tanks,
From soldiers to friends a bond is being made,
These memories recalled never to fade,
So be patient and support the efforts we make,
and remember to leave would be the biggest mistake............
I wrote this poem because I feel the soldiers have more to tell us then any news column could. Im sure there are many who think we should withdraw the troops but I think there are more who think we are doing the right thing. Many of us seem to forget how we won our independence and became a great nation. We didnt do it by ourselves as we counted on other countries to help us out. In fact many people refused to fight the red coats and it wasnt till the possibility of freedom looked good till the country started to unite. Today I stand thankful for those who have helped us and one day the Iraqi people will do the same.
So if you want the real story on the war and Iraq make sure your talking to a soldier, several soldiers about what they think and feel. They put their lives at risk and only they can tell us when its time to leave.
Thank you for serving your country and God Bless you!!
Warm Hugs
Jesse
