War Journal : Adult Poetry

written by Poet : Robert1

My ears ring as the sweat flows down my back. Bullets pass ever closer. Bombs blast, now the bodies we stack. No time to bury our dead. Enemy at our door. Chose her, I find she's all that was said. And more.

But in the temptations of the flesh, the spirit soon departs. Built of clay screen we mess. By the moon, I see her heart. What answers are there when truth is a lie.Tell me who will care when you say goodbye. For in war who speaks of love?As if authority came from above.

I kill and I forgot how to sleep. No will, I think I'm in too deep. I watch as my buddy dies in my arms. As he speaks of his wife I try to shelter him from harm. but the damage is done. I watch as he loses his life.

Just another day, 43 in a village dead. I hear the screams inside my head. I laugh at the coldness of who I've become. The devil no less and he has a gun. So I write these words and I go to bed. Blood turns cold at what was said.
