Where have all the poets gone
Don't see them in magazine or book
But stuff I see could fill a tome
And yet it's still just gobbledygook.
Not written with style and elegance
Just haphazardly it is begot
No challenge to the intelligence
Just to be read and then forgot.
Some editors say the won't publish
Anything written in meter and rhyme
But to encourage all this gibberish
Surely it must be a crime.
Why should I have all these worries
Over the things called poetry today
They're just the shortest of short stories
Written in a sort of loosy goosy way.
So if you do have the talent
To put down your feelings just so
Do not hesitate to lament
So we know where the poets go. . . . . .
