Amid the flowers and the sunshine

He was born in the springtime

With a look only a mother could love

His mama just called him April Fool.

April Fool was a cowboy

Looking for a little toy

She played with him the whole day through

And she was a cowgirl

Looking for a little whirl

She told him "I love you, April Fool".

Amid the homework and the tests

He'd rather be down at recess

His grades only a teacher could love.

His teacher just called him April Fool.

She taught him everything that he knew

Looking for a little pearl

Amid the hoots and the catcalls

Two left feet at the dance hall

Had a step only his lady could love
