When the days grow short
And the nights grow long
Heavy laden is the heart
And sadly wails the song.
In the lonely Autumn nights
Winds blow crisp and cold
And nature's lovely sights
Turn to hues of red and gold.
Autumn slowly fades
To Winters biting snow
Trees cease to shade
Where leaves no longer grow.
I walked through frozen woods
Painted with nature's brush
On barren rocks I stood
And listened to the hush.
Bare branches salute the sun
Covered with ice that gleams
Drip, drip, drip they run
Into puddles, like dreams.
A peaceful solitude
Is within this barren land
Except man be so crude
Peace of mind is at hand.
Small creatures are endowed
With instincts for survival
But many a man has bowed
To sights he could not rival.
Then night finally comes
And the soul grows weary
The day is already done
One faces the night so leery.
For night is a lonely time
Cold into the bone doth creep
Wonder will the sun ever shine
Again to warm my feet.
The snow lazily drifts down\
Beating a staccato overhead
Sensitive to every sound
I lay silently in my bed.
Oh terrible sleep finally wins
The subconscious shakes my breadth
And takes the heart on twists, spins
Through a little snatch of death.
But on the morn the dawn does break
The sun so brightly shines
I set out for my own sake
On another search for peace of mind. . . . .
Nobody Special
