The incessant pounding of the heart
merciless rhytms, jungle drums gone wild
a signal of danger, raising a storm within
infernal in its muffled message of death
date, time of day, and process
something to live with or live by?
To live in the shadow of death takes ignorance
not many crack jokes two minutes from death
it has been done by condemned people
someone who is to swing by the clock
never walking away from that tick-tock
however, all of us are condemned to die
we ought to tip our hat at that date
bravery becomes us so very well
