Withdrawn, harbouring within herself
her kingdom is vast
full of ghosts and conquered castles
her glory is a crown of burning thorns
each thorn makes its impression
deep in her skin it sits
teasing her flesh to remember
memories of past passions flood her mind
she turns to confront them, to relive some
to bury others in slaked lime
die, she whispers, die
those dead memories linger to haunt her
she wants to scream, but can't
