I know what turned my attention
the freedom of viewing the world at large
was set aside, as my eyes glued on this man
this walking dead, a spectre of unlived life
I didn't want to see his dead face
his hollow frame and his hands, so empty
Why did I not let lose my attention
let it soar in beauty, love and life?
As he turned his eyes upon me I knew
this is no stranger, he has come for me
to know him is to follow inborn patterns
something that ticks in place and hurts
I averted my eyes, forced them to shift attention
What they saw was a world grown shallow
This is not for beginners I said to my soul
while clutching my heart -
