Loneliness : Adult Poetry

written by Poet : EC

Loneliness is a chameleon, a sorrowful cheat
The lonely one can be set apart, but still take part
Loneliness may be the main thread to the eye
but not to the heart of the victim. And vice versa

Nobody as lonely as the one in a crowd
the heart cries out, "not me, not me"
but that's what that one is: Lonely, yes
all, all too lonely although not alone

What does that mean to be alone when in crowds?
Aren't we all just that, whoever fits in everywhere?
To turn and look at those being bid welcome
means feeling one's own lack of acceptance
is that being lonely? The feeling is insight
"I know" you say, yeah, you do, but who defines
what loneliness is and who belong to this group?

Turn your soul outside down and feel the YOU
You are there, no matter what the verdict is
"Poor, lonely wretch", was that it? Feel it
Suddenly it's gone and there YOU are feeling YOU
maybe alone, but not necessarily lonely
You dip in and out of these conditions
and there it is, the confirmed knowledge
that you are you and that you can do just that
