A day of sacred waitening
one of those "in-between-days"
a moment in history staying with us
betrayal and bravery made holy
signed by the cock that crew
"Love each other," he said
a commandment stamped in hearts
forgotten when they were scattered
is this a prelude to the serene "it is finished"
or was it the other one?
The "into thy hands I commend my spirit"?
Maybe it was that pit-deep wail of sorrow
"My God, why hast thou forsaken me?"
A sacrifice made in faith, in honesty
a gory death turned holy or a self delusion?
