The Fureys And Chaplin : Creative Writing

written by Poet : Doctor-Write

After  all  those  years  the  Furey brothers  have  spent  together , singing their songs and bringing their gift of friendship and laughter around the world , it has been  a chapter of many   happy  memories for this very talented family . A life  of  being  on  the  road .

People  attribute  the  Fureys  for  making  the  folk  music  scene the  popular  item  that  we  have  today  .
It is people like this who have  kept  the  flag  flying  and  made  Irish people around the world feel proud and invited other cultures into the Irish way of seeing things  .

Being from gypsy heritage the Fureys have never minded travelling .
The  lifestyle  that  goes  with  being  a  travelling  musician  is  not  an  easy  one , but  if  it  where  not  for  people  like  the  Fureys
the  world  would  a  much poorer  place  be  .
They  have  brought  happiness  to  people  all  around  the  world  and  connected  their  understanding  of songs and music across a wide
Plane of consciousness of what it is to be Irish .

When passing from this life into the next the very talented button  key  accordion  player Paul Furey   must have looked back and thought
Everything  was well worth the effort .
God only knows how many late nights and endless roads he had to travel . God only knows the lonliness he must have felt while he was touring with the band . God only knows how many times he wished for a break from the road , and yet the show went on .

Paul Furey on the most recent album  that  gives  tribute  to
the  songwriting  skills  of  Charlie  Chaplin delivers the vocals on a track entitled Weeping Willows  . In this translation of one of Charlie Chaplins numbers Paul brings Charlie Chaplins account of the King In New York alive again . This was the last thing Paul Furey ever did .
What a great legacy he has left the world .
The late Paul Furey has a very special place on this album along with the genius of Charlie Chaplin .

Some of the other tracks on the album The Fureys Sing Chaplin are  Eternally from the 1952 production of Limelight and Smile from  Modern Times in 1936 . Spring Song from A King In New York and This Is My Song from the 1966 production of A Countess Fron Hong Kong .

These songs are performed by the oldesty of the family Eddie Furey .

George Furey sings Beautiful Wonderful Eyes from the 1951 production of City Lights and from the 1925 Gold Rush SingA Song.

His rendition of You Are The Song from Gentleman Tramp is very deep and emotional .
This album indeed is a great tribute to the genius of the one and only  Charlie Chaplin  and the talent of The Furey Brothers .

The  voice of Charlie Chaplin is also heard on this alum on the  tracks Nonsense Song, Its Love, Life Of A Sardine Dictator Speech and Monsieur Verdoux .

Charlie was one of those extra-ordinary people who could have walked into a recording studio and while other people were focused on sound levels wee Charlie would have been catching a bee in a bottle .
On the screen he could have walked into a set  ,and begun to unscrew a light bulb and begin to eat it in front of a rolling camera .
He had that instant thing only Charlie Chaplin could see .
I’m  told that his daughter Josephine has spared no  expense
on  the  production of her Fathers tribute album Chaplin Sings and the Fureys sing Chaplin as only  they alone could .
This is an album that brings Vaudaville back again .
This is an album that has the hallmark of a fine and rare gift .
This is an album people are only now starting to hear about .
Its also been  great  to  hear  Paul Furey sing and leave us
A song for his  last farewell .
Weeping Willows was the evening of his last farewell .
He didn’t  want  leave it too late and so with those final words .
Bye  For  Now  .
