Artistic Achievments Of The 20th Century : Creative Writing

written by Poet : Doctor-Write

Creativity is what stands out most of all in our human existence on this planet .

It is a positive progression and one that encourages us to achieve .

Writers of poetry and makers of  music have been reflecting the thoughts of cultures and communities around the world .

Movies , documentarries , short films , and photographic images have captured moments in time since the  turn  of  the  20th Century  .

From  the early  years of the twentieth century  singers , songwriters , and  musicians  played  all the way through Tin  pan alley  to make their fortune  and  fame  on  stage  and  screen .
Music Halls  and  Broadway  .

During  two  world  wars  music  and  song  kept  the  soldiers  dancing  and  gave  hope  to  all  their  loved  ones  at  home  that  war  would  come  to  an  end .

Music  lifted  us  above  hardship  and  songwriters   had  ability  to  speak    words  many  people  wanted  to  say .
After  the  war  people  wanted  to  dance  and  The  Big  Band  sound  brought  a  new  swing  to  the  world  .

The  emergence  of   black  gospel  choirs  began  to   awaken  the  world  with   music  born  from  suffering  , slavery , and  oppression .
Noticeably this year an evidence of American roots produced itself in the winning combination ,
having a  deep  essence of soul  and  blues, steeped in the roots of  black  gospel and the soul
of America reached  out  and  touched  again many people who felt oppressed and in chains by sorrow and fear . Jumping back into the mists of another time when Johnny B Good and Chuck Berry where crusing their way through . Something gripped the world so tightly that it almost suffocated sobriety of that time .  A great influencing  factor over the years began with rock & roll  music  .

Not forgetting another sparkling era which brought us the musicals on the big screen . This was a time  where  the  flavour  of Hollywood threw  big  casts on big  technicolour  screens  .
The  technical    ability  to  make  good   stereo  recordings  music   found  its  way  into  studios  all  over  the  world  producing instant  stardom  and  fortune  for  those  gifted  artists  .

Radio  was  another  vehicle  that  propelled  the  record  industry  into  top  gear  with   millions  of  people  having  a   radio  at  home  or  in  the  car  .   Music  lovers  had  whatever  taste  they  desired at  the  turn  of  a  knob  .

With  TV  broadcasts  of  live  concerts  popular  music  went from  the  concert  hall  into  an  armchair  at  home  and   a  new  concept  came  in  the  form  of  video clips  and  satellite  transmission  .

During  the  latter  years  of  the twentieth century  music  and  song  had  come  a  long  way  and  it  had  matured  to  the  point  where  it  was  able  to  change  its  direction  quicker  than  before  .
New  progress was  made  with  music  when   a  new  sound  evolved  like  Motown  , Disco , Underground  . When  the  challenge  came  to  established styles  of  music  like  Folk  Music , Pop  ,Rock  , Contemporary , Country , or  Blues  music  provided  an   answer  and  began  to  fuse  and  become  diverse  with  new  directions  like  Punk , New  Age , Heavy  Metal ,  Rap . Hip Hop  ,  Technic , and  then  eventually World  Music  made  its  mark  .

Grammy  awards  have  echo  the  same  thanks  to  God  by  gifted  artists  who  have  made  their  mark  on  the  world  stage  with  their  music  .  Some  notable  achievements  music  has  made  already  this century  have  been  with  its  direction , quality , and  originality  .
Music  has  brought  into the  world  a  message  of  hope , happiness and a freedom to express emotions and talent in a fusion never before attempted .

Films  of  course  have  grown  up  along  with  the  music  industry  . Looking back through time at
1927  when the  success  of    “The  Jazz  Singer”  starring  Al  Joson  heralded  a  change  from “silent”  to  “talkies”  in  the  same  year  The  Academy  of  Motion  Pictures,  Arts,  and  Sciences,  was  born   Originally  a  body  of  people  met  in  an  effort  to  promote  and  improve  artistic  movement  and  encourage   new  progress  with sound  quality  and  production  of  movies  .
Then two years later in 1929 a new breeze wafted through the halls of fame when the very first   academy award  trophy  was  sketched  and  designed  on  a  tablecloth  at  a  banquet  in  Hollywoods  Biltmore  Hotel  by   Cedric  Gibbons  an  art  director  with  the  Academy .

The  Statuette  as  it  was  then  known,  was  first  presented  in  1929 and it  became  an  annual  event  after  that  .

It  became  known  as  The   Oscar  in  1931 ,  due  to  a  comment that was made  by  Margaret  Herrick   who  was  the  librarian  at the academy  .  Looking  at  The  Statuette  one  day  she  said how  the  Statuette  beared  a  resemblance  to  her  dear  Uncle  Oscar  .
That  day  the  word  spread  and  Oscars  name
in  the  end  dubbed   the  award  we  have  today  .

I  suppose  20th  Century  Fox  had  to  have  an  end  to  an  era , but  now  21st  Fox  and  the  other  movie  makers   I’m  sure will have many  surprises  in  store  .
It  is  always  a  good  measuring  stick  for  actors ,  actresses , directors ,  scriptwriters , Composers .

Just  about  everybody  wants  an  Oscar  on  the  mantelpiece , and  it  is  a  fight  for  the  right  to  get  nominated  .
So as competition  is  good  for  business  , Oscar  will  continue to challenge the aspirations of many
to  shine  for  the  academy  . In this world of ours that has seen so much growth in the fields of arts and entertainment ,  the  industry  is still overflowing  with  achievements  .

Let us not sink in the gloom and the doom but ride through the darkness on a sunbeam of hope , that we can achieve a lot .

THE  END
