Writers Who Get Globally Serious
The word is there are saints in action and they need to be heard .Writers and artists who have a voice in the public arena are very aware of addressing the needs of those who are not able to speak for themselves .
Recently popular artists like Annie Lennox , Peter Gabriel and Johnny Clegg were broadcast around the world adding their action and voice to World AIDS day . It was a positive impact made by them and many others who performed in Johannesburg .The concert was organized by Nelson Mandela's 46664 AIDS campaign group . I would like to call them heroes or even angels in action . They are saints alive and are a witness for Christ in the world .
Television and newspapers can be one way to introduce the plight of our planet and the needs of those who live on it .
The mission of one voice telling another is like throwing a small stone into a lake , That causes a ripple and if enough stones are thrown into the lake sooner or later there will be waves splashing over the surface .
We can all be that small pebble by writing a poem or a story , or a song .
Each time I turn on the television or radio I invite a media intervention into my
living room . I am informed by newspapers and magazines about current affairs .
Recently I have noticed a quiet revolution taking place where crops have been introduced to curb the effects AIDS and famine have had .
Many writers and musicians have had a voice with awareness campaigns .
Look at the example Bob Geldorf and Bono have made. Their efforts have strung together some huge concerts and have opened up the eyes of the world who weer blind to the horrors of poverty and starvation in the world .
The outcome was a massive response that resulted in some justice with some of the third world debt being cancelled and food and clothing for the homeless and hungry .Compensation is on going because no one wants to accept the blame for all those people who have suffered .
If there can be justice for the millions of people who starve each day writers can contribute their efforts along with countless organizations who work hard to alleviate the suffering of others in the world. .
With all of the hunger and disease in poverty stricken lands in the world today
I am proud of the large number of poets , singer and songwriters who are working very hard promoting hope and providing a voice that supports their cause and gives shelter to abandoned lives who see no where to turn to .
Too many people exist with nothing and live in abject poverty .They are shamed and abused because of it . They are spat on and insulted because they are poor and disadvantaged . They are treated like dirt . Walked over and chained by those who deem themselves to be some kind of superior beings.
In order to assist a need and heal some of the wounds inflicted by mans own inhumanity to man first there must be an understanding that we all live together with the injustice and that has to change .
Only when justice is found then can we strive for compensation .
Finally healing can begin . In that place love can begin again to speak out .
Seek out a place for poetry in that .
Complacency is a footstool that provides an excuse to comfort wealthy individuals who refuse alleviate the suffering of disadvantaged people .
In that place greed can destroy the dignity of those who are afflicted .
There is a place for poetry there to employ words that expose those who remain oblivious to the need of millions who are dying for the want of food or medicine .
Only when people step outside their safety zone can they make a chance to do something wholesome for others . To continue to ignore the injustice of poverty in the world is a crime against humanity
A massive response is needed with global warming and climate change .There is a place for poetry there .
We can have a result in some areas and as a body of people together we can bring insight and on going intervention to combat the needs of a fragile planet in need of healing .
We are living in the 21st century and some of these wounds are huge . What we do not want is festered memories of a generation that did nothing to help .
We do not want the future generations to read a poem that reflects an age of devastion like this one I have penned .
The Cry Of 2007

The land reaped the crops no more .
Dust was all that remained .
Aids spread like a wildfire.
It echoed we're all to blame .
Children diedand people cried .
No one could understand .
It was a shame nobody bothered to lend a hand .
Poets wrote through tears as history's pages fulfilled .
An age that turned its back on the millions that were killed .
The famine raged .
The climate changed .
Now they wonder why .
The cry was never heard 'til no one was left to cry.
I don't want to be a prophet of doom so lets stop this ever happening .
You can dissect this and analyse this .but what ever way it comes out there is never any excuse for it . We are poets and writers who care for the world we live in
