Speak the Truth : Native American Poetry

written by Poet : Codger

Speak the truth

Do so each day

Speak with lies

They’ll forget what you say

Your words should have fire

Or else why bother

Listening to a liar

Is like drinking warm water

Stand straight and tall

Your head held up high

Others will listen

Look right in their eyes

The eyes show the soul

Yours should be clean

When they look into yours

They’ll know what you mean

Speak the truth

No matter the cost

There’s more to be gained

Than ever you lost

Liars can fool you

They do so with charm

If you truly listen

You’ll know they mean harm

Liars must remember

All the lies they have told

It’s a load they must carry

Their words become cold

If you speak the truth

Your words do no harm

Speak with your heart

Your words become warm

True words can bring comfort

They can wipe away tears

Truth brings you honor

When you speak without fear

My words here are true

No lies if you’ve wondered

If you live by these truths

Your words will have thunder
