Youthful Exuberance : Family Poetry

written by Poet : Cheylinn1

Youthful Exuberance

Playing cards attached to bicycle spokes,
like a motor clickety-clack down the road;
hours spent at the neighborhood pond,
looking for tadpoles or some big old toad.

Rollerskating on city sidewalks,
a softball game played in the park;
flying a kite up high in the sky,
catching fireflies in a jar after dark.

Shooting the bad guys with a cap gun,
just like the cowboys out in the old west;
where the good guys always wear white hats,
and tin badged heroes did what was best.

A dip in the pool, a run through the sprinkler,
maybe a ride down the tallest slide;
counting to ten with your eyes closed,
while the rest of the kids go run and hide.

Summer days full of childhood pleasures,
Smores at the campfire, such sweet memories;
these are the days that we long remember,
fun filled days as free as the breeze.
