Texas : Narrative Poetry

written by Poet : Cheylinn1

At the end of a long Texas highway,

surrounded by Pecan and Mesquite trees;

Prickly pears and Yucca plants,

lay a town kissed by a warm southern breeze.

A town where football is number one,

played under Friday night lights;

where good ole boys hang out rebel flags,

and go skinny dipping on warm summer nights.

A small southern town with tree lined streets,

with an old clock tower in the town square;

where little old ladies plant flowers in their yards,

and the scent of honeysuckle lingers in the air.

Situated in the heart of this Texas town,

beside the post office and Bev's Barbeque;

was the Conoco and the old Piggly Wiggly,

and the Baptist church with a warm welcome for you.

Just outside of town is the old cemetery,

with a monument honoring heroes all;

this Texas town bleeds red, white and blue,

and when needed they answered the call.

It's a town filled with hardworking people,

who work, raise kids and pay taxes;

God Blessed the folks in America,

but smiled when He looked down on Texas.
