Hands like a giant;
broad palms, long fingers,
strong enough to spank a bottom,
or carry a tired child off to bed.
Hands hardened and calloused
from toiling each day at work,
and yet, gentle enough
to wipe a tear from a child's eye.
Hands that proudly applaud
the accomplishments
of a son or daughter,
and strong enough
to give an encouraging nudge
when needed.
All of these, are the responsibilities,
of a daddy's hands.
