Soft whispers,
Sweet promises.
They'll grab her,
Entwine her hopelessly
If she'll let them.
He'll speak to her
With quiet words;
The words she longs to hear.
He'll make her smile
Because he wants to
And that is his power.
She has not yet learned
of the mask he wears.
She has not felt
the sharp edge of his anger,
the sting of physical pain
that hurts most in her heart.
She won't heed the warning signs
And that will be her undoing.
The mask will fall
And the pain will begin.
She'll be changed.
Softened.
Surrendered.
Wishing for light in that smile;
Never seeing it.
Always alone.
